Family-fun things to do in Adelaide this winter
Schoooool’s out! For. Winter. That means they’re going to have plenty of spare time on their hands.
The July school holidays are just around the corner, so it’s time to start planning what to do and where to take the kids.
We scouted a few brilliant things to do from around the state that are sure to keep the kids busy and entertained these winter holidays. Fun was our only criteria.
Illuminate Adelaide

Light Creatures at the Adelaide Zoo, with its colourful animal installations, is bound to be a family favourite.
LEGO Icebreaker Challenge
LEGO is the greatest toy of all-time. That’s a plastic brick hill I’m willing to die on.
Are your kids little LEGO masters? Then let them have a crack at the South Australian Museum’s LEGO Icrebreaker Challenge, inspired by Ryan McNaught, better known as ‘The Brickman’ – the nation’s only certified LEGO Certified Professional.
In 90-minute sessions, children will build their own mini-icebreaker – a ship that clears the way through ice for other ships to pass – and run it through an obstacle course. Will it crash through brick ice? Who knows! But it’ll be fun to find out.
After that, the kids will join museum guides for a tour of the polar gallery to explore the biodiversity and historical expeditions through some of the world’s coldest climates.
Brickman’s epic LEGO replica of the RSV Nuyina, Australia’s newest icebreaker, will be on display in the museum foyer during the school holidays.
Code Camp
Do you know a kid with a fascination for computer games? Get them off Roblox these school holidays and into Code Camp.
This program, available through school holiday camps, after-school activities, or online sessions, is just for them!
Aimed at kids aged five to 13, Code Camp empowers young computer whizzes to learn the fundamentals of coding in a fun and creative way.
Using their computer programming skills, they can fly drones, build a website, make animated movies, create content for YouTube and even become a DJ mixing the hottest beats.
Who knows, your child might even build Apple 2.0 right under your roof!

St Kilda Adventure Playground
This has been a childhood favourite since the Rubik’s cube puzzled the whole world. Since then, St Kilda Adventure Playground has only become bigger and better.
Race to the top of a three-level castle with slides and fireman poles. Climb the volcano and ride the lava slides. Sail for treasure aboard the pirate ship. At St Kilda Adventure Playground, your child’s imagination can run free.
Set on four hectares by the seafront, the playground features flying foxes, super-sized swings and a concord wave to climb on. Smaller playgrounds with swings, seesaws and a sandpit with diggers cater for younger children.
And when you’re done for the day, you might want to check out nearby attractions such as the Tramway Museum, St Kilda Boat Club and Marina and Mangrove Trail Boardwalk.
Holey Moley
Mini golf plus video games equals super fun times! No, we’re not going back to the future, we’re popping into Holey Moley, Adelaide’s craziest mini golf venue.
Play eighteen holes on pop culture-themed holes inspired by Pacman, The Simpson’s, the board game Operation and more.
When you’ve finished the round, head straight to the Retro Games Arcade to play classics like Mario Kart, pinball and shoot hoops. Ready player one?
If consoles are more your thing, grab a booth, pick a controller and load up your gaming system of choice from XBox, N64, PS5 or Switch.
There’s even a licensed bar for the big kids to relax and unwind. Holey Moley is awesome – no ifs, putts or maybes!
