Whether you’re a seasoned independent traveller or you’re embarking on your first solo adventure, a cruise holiday could tick all the boxes.
Gone are the days when cruises were just for families and couples. They’re becoming so popular with independent travellers that cruise companies are designing cabins, amenities and deals to cater for the increasing demand.
Is it affordable?
When booking a cabin, you may be dreading the single supplement that’s often charged for accommodation to cover the cost of a double occupancy. The good news is some companies such as Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean offer single cabins – at a single rate – so you’re not having to fork out extra cash.
Each ship has only a handful of these cabins available so if you have your eye on a particular cruise, be sure to book early.
As well as accommodation, single fares generally include all the other bells and whistles, such as main meals and onboard entertainment, so you can make the most of your adventure on the high seas.
The best of both worlds
Solo travel certainly doesn’t mean you have to travel alone and a cruise offers the freedom to do what you want, when you want. From theatre shows to fitness classes and even art galleries, you’ll find plenty of ways to be entertained.
Need some quality ‘me time’? Why not indulge in a day spa treatment or immerse yourself in a good book poolside?
Feel like meeting some fellow travellers or learning a new skill? Check out the jam-packed schedule of onboard activities or join a shore excursion and meet other passengers as you explore an exciting new destination.
Cruisers are a friendly bunch and communal dining options mean you won’t have to eat alone if you don’t want to. Some companies even offer special onboard singles events such as cocktail parties and themed nights, so you might even find yourself joining a group sing-along or carving up the dancefloor well into the night.
