Cash in with new petrol pricing app

South Australians can now access live fuel prices for free on the myRAA app, helping them locate the cheapest prices on the market and save money at the pump.
The app, available to all South Australians, will include every retail outlet in the state and will be updated within 30 minutes of prices being set at the pump.
Real-time fuel pricing requires retailers to provide the government with the price they are charging for petrol, diesel and LPG, which can then be shared with the public online.
The public can access the information through the myRAA app.
The launch of real-time fuel pricing in South Australia on March 20 coincided with an RAA survey that revealed 80% of motorists are concerned about rising petrol prices.
Adelaide’s average monthly petrol price has risen from 104.3c per litre in April last year to 131.6c per litre last month.
The RAA survey showed these rising fuel costs would make 76% of motorists more likely to use a real-time fuel pricing app.
RAA Mobility Specialist Mark Borlace said rising fuel costs were placing an extra cost-of-living burden on households.
“Motorists are feeling the pinch at the pump with rising fuel prices, so having the data on apps to find the cheapest price available is a real bonus,’’ he said.
RAA research shows petrol prices can spike by up to 50c per litre – adding an extra $30 to the cost of filling the tank of a typical family sedan.
“That’s why it is so important that motorists have this money-saving tool to track the movement of fuel prices and buy at the cheapest outlets.’’
The fuel information, available on the myRAA app, will also be published on the RAA website.
