Utes have dominated car sales in the first half of 2025, with the Ford Ranger remaining Australian motorists’ most popular vehicle.

Toyota HiLux, Isuzu Ute D-Max and the BYD Shark 6 rounded out the top four vehicles sold on the Australian market, cementing the popularity of dual-cab utes. In fact, dual-cab utes made up a whopping 15.2 per cent of all vehicles sales in June 2025.

The rest of the top 10 was made of SUVs, including the popular Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 models.

Sedans and hatchback sales continued to decline in June 2025, with sales down 27.9 per cent year-on-year.

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries Chief Executive Tony Weber says the results highlight the continued popularity of dual-cab utes in Australia.

“Australia remains one of the most open and competitive markets in the world, where consumers have a wide range of choice across all market segments,” he says.
