What’s the most common car insurance claim?
Having your parked car hit is the most common reason for making a car insurance claim, RAA Insurance data has revealed.
The crash type represents 18 per cent of all vehicle claims lodged with RAA.
RAA Insurance Head of Claims, Jess Lyons, understands this type of crash is often out of your control.
“In this instance, we recommend getting the details of the driver who hit you, if you can,” Jess says.
“Your insurer can then help you investigate the possibility of waiving your excess if you weren’t at fault. If you hit a parked car, you must stop and provide your details or report the incident to the police.”
Other major reasons for lodging a claim included hitting a fixed object (17 per cent), windscreen damage (16 per cent) and rear end collisions (12 per cent).
“We receive a lot of claims for damaged windscreens, which can be a real safety hazard,” Jess says. “We recommend getting the windscreen repaired as soon as possible”.
