Every time we get behind the wheel, we pass dozens of road signs and navigate them without a second thought.But how well do you really know their meaning? And what about the lesser-known signs? You’re running late for work and need to drop your children at school. You see this sign. Can you stop here?* A. No, you can’t stop here under any circumstances. B. Yes, you can stop here for as long as you need to drop off and pick up children, but you can’t leave your car. C. Yes, you can stop here to drop off or pick up children, but you must drive on within two minutes and can’t be any more than 3m from your vehicle. 2. You’re approaching a narrow bridge, and see this sign. There’s a vehicle travelling on the bridge towards you in the opposite direction. What should you do?* A. Slow down or stop to allow the other vehicle to finish crossing the bridge, before crossing the bridge yourself. B. Continue across the bridge with caution, because there’s just enough space to pass the other vehicle. C. Stop at the sign, then turn around because you can’t pass the sign. 3. You’re driving in the left lane, and you see this sign. What does it mean?* A. There’s a side road joining from the left and cars entering must stop and give way to all continuing traffic. B. The lane on the left is set to end and continuing traffic must give way to traffic in the left lane. C. It’s a warning sign to advise drivers that two streams of traffic from separate roadways must merge ahead. 4. You’re driving along a road and come across this sign. What does it mean?* A. Only Ford vehicles are permitted on this road. B. There could be water over the road. Be prepared to adjust your driving to the conditions. C. The road narrows over a culvert (bridge-like structure). 5. If you see this sign…* A. You must legally reduce your speed limit to 45km/h or below. B. It’s recommended you reduce your speed to about 45km/h as you negotiate the bend. C. You can’t travel slower than 45km/h around the bend. 6. You’re driving in a lane with a concrete divider to your left when you come across this sign. What does it mean?* A. This is the end of a divided road, and all traffic in the left lane must give way to all other continuing traffic. B. The left lane ends, and traffic must merge. C. There is an added lane approaching from the left, and vehicles continue in separate lanes. 7. You’re enjoying a walk along Linear Park and come across this sign. What does it mean?* A. You’re on a path where cyclists share the path with pedestrians. Cyclists must keep to the left and give way to pedestrians, and should sound a bell or warning device when approaching from behind B. Cyclists and pedestrians must share the path and work out between themselves who gives way. C. You’re walking along a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians, but cyclists get priority because it’s more difficult for them to stop. 8. You need to quickly drop off a letter at a business but the nearby car parks are all taken. You spot this sign; can you stop here?* A. No, only courier drivers can stop here for a period no longer than two minutes. B. No, you’re not permitted to stop here unless traffic conditions, such as being in a queue, require it, but passengers and the driver must still not enter or leave the vehicle. C. Yes, you can stop here if you remain in the car, put your hazard lights on and someone from the business comes out to collect the letter. 9. You’re leaving a country town with a 60km/h speed limit. When you leave the built-up area, you’re faced with this sign. What does it mean?* A. You’re entering an open speed limit area and may travel at the speed you deem to be safe. B. You can travel up to the default speed limit, which is 100km/h in a non-builtup area. C. You must continue to travel at 60km/h until you see the next speed sign.
