RAA’s weirdest insurance claims

Hold onto your eyeballs

Our insurance team are used to receiving claims for false teeth. Interestingly, there’s a common theme when it comes to this type of claim – while members are out on the water enjoying a day’s boating or fishing, the wind picks up and blows their dentures straight out of their mouths. We’ve also had a few similar claims for artificial eyes in the past year.

Horsing around

One of our members came home to find they’d inadvertently acquired an interesting garden feature after their neighbour’s horse wandered into the backyard and managed to get its head stuck in the hills hoist – the clothesline acting as a slightly over-the-top fashion accessory. The horse was fine but the hills hoist wasn’t.

That’s one way to end a holiday

On a recent holiday, a member reversed their caravan into position in the caravan park, and backed straight over their new neighbours’ campsite – flattening their tent, camp kitchen and deck chairs. Fortunately, the campers were out sightseeing and no one was hurt. This happened during ‘happy hour’ in the park though, so other travellers had some live entertainment with their afternoon drinks, and an interesting holiday story to tell when they got home.
