How to: live more sustainably

Thinking of ways to go green in your daily life? It has never been easier thanks to an ever-expanding range of sustainable products that’ll help you lessen your impact on the environment. Here are some easy changes you can make.

1. Cleaning

While common household products such as dishwashing liquid, washing powder and fabric softener may do what they’re designed for, often the remnants that flow down the drain aren’t great for our environment, especially marine life.

Consider making the switch to eco-friendly, natural alternatives that are not only non-toxic and free of nasties for your skin, but also better for the environment.

2. Shop ’til you drop

Is your pantry overflowing with plastic bags?

Consider buying reusable shopping and produce bags, which help to reduce the use of plastics. They’re convenient, washable, sustainable, decrease pollution and protect wildlife as plastic bags are known to end up in our waterways and parks.

3. Coffee

Coffee machines are a staple in many households and single-use pods are the most common option on the supermarket shelf.

To feel even better after your morning coffee, why not invest in stainless-steel reusable capsules? They’re designed to last a lifetime and are compatible with many machines on the market.

4. Green thumb

Composting is great for both the environment and your garden because it reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfill, and in turn creates a nutrient-rich natural fertiliser.

You’ll be surprised how many compost options there are on the market, including indoor and outdoor systems, and worm farms using compostable rubbish and kitchen scraps. Pet waste can also be kept away from landfill using odour-eliminating systems.

5. Food on the go

Reusable cups are a common accessory these days, but you can take your quest to go green one step further by using environmentally friendly bento boxes and reusable cutlery.

With separate compartments, bento boxes are a great alternative to wrapping food in plastic or buying individually packaged snacks. Investing in a reusable cutlery set made from sustainably sourced bamboo is another great, and convenient, way to help the environment.
