How insurance helped replace a treasured Item

Losing a valuable personal possession – whether it’s a laptop, phone or jewellery – can be devastating, but thankfully RAA Accidental Damage Cover can come to your rescue.

When my partner, May, lost a ring I bought her to celebrate the birth of our first child, we were devastated.

The ring had slipped off her finger while she was shopping, and although we searched high and low for it, the treasured possession couldn’t be found.

Thankfully though, we’d invested in accidental damage cover when we purchased our Home and Contents Insurance with RAA.

What is accidental damage cover?

Whether you rent or own, adding accidental damage cover to your contents insurance means your items are covered if they’re accidently lost, stolen or damaged anywhere in Australia and New Zealand.

Basically, Accidental Damage Cover with RAA is insurance that moves with you when you’re outside of the home.

It covers things from phones and laptops to your child’s bag or iPad. The pay-off for you?

Peace of mind knowing that when you, or your little ones, take these possessions out of the home, they’re  covered should something unforeseen happen.

For us, that meant we were able to make a claim with RAA for our ring.

The same applies to people who’ve lost or damaged other possessions. Maybe your mobile phone stopped working after it fell in water or was stolen while you were out of the house.

Perhaps your child left their expensive musical instrument on the bus or dropped their laptop at school.

If you have Accidental Damage Cover with RAA, you can make an insurance claim for these items. With RAA’s Accidental Damage Cover, you can choose the level of cover that’s right for you, with options of $2000 or $5000.

What if I want to insure items worth more than $5000?

For more valuable possessions, you can potentially add these to your contents insurance as a Specified Item Away from Home. “What’s a specified item?” I hear you asking.

A specified item is a possession you can choose to add to your RAA Contents Insurance, for example, an engagement ring valued at more than $5000 – the limit for RAA Accidental Damage Cover.

RAA’s Specified Item Away from Home Optional Cover will cover up to the sum insured value of your specified item if it’s accidently lost, stolen or damaged, not only in Australia and New Zealand, but anywhere in the world.

Home and Contents Insurance is issued by RAA Insurance Ltd ABN 14 007 872 602. Optional cover only available in conjunction with RAA Contents Insurance. The maximum RAA will cover is the sum insured as shown on your certificate of insurance. Subject to exclusions and limitations.
