Let your dreams set sail

Whether you’re a cruising newbie or at home on the waves, here are the hottest harbours you don’t have to just dream about.

With the weather turning icy here at home, let your mind wander. Consider sipping cocktails while lazing on pristine palm-lined beaches, or discovering hidden artefacts from ancient civilisations. Imagine yourself starboard watching hundreds of picturesque Dalmatian Islands appear on the horizon.

Dream no more – here are a few of our favourite cruising destinations.

Mediterranean magnetism

The Mediterranean, home to many of the world’s oldest cultures, is also sun soaked and bustling with life and vibrancy. Set sail along the coast, and you’ll discover some of Europe’s greatest treasures.

Marvel at the gothic work of art that is the (as yet) unfinished Sagrada Família in Barcelona and discover the ruins of many mighty civilisations, from Athens to Ephesus and Pompeii.

Throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, take a trip around the Colosseum, and stare in silent wonder at the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling.

Santorini and the ocean
Soak up the sun in the Greek Islands this summer.

Immerse yourself in the iconic sky blues and bright whites of Santorini with an ouzo and explore the island by private vehicle. For those who are a little more adventurous, enjoy the hike from Fira to Oia on foot – it’s breathtaking, figuratively and literally.

Courting the Caribbean

Who hasn’t daydreamed about escaping to a picture-perfect Caribbean Island? With cruises leaving Florida, there are some amazing places you can discover on these tropical islands.

You can visit the Bahamian island bay of Princess Cays exclusively on a Princess Cruise. Enjoy unspoiled beaches and go snorkelling, kayaking, or swimming with giant stingrays. You’ll even be privy to an exclusive beach party just for your ship!

If you’re a Jurassic Park buff, add Amber Cove to your list – you’ll recognise the Dominican Republic bay from the first movie of the original series. If movie-set spotting isn’t for you, Amber Cove has a plethora of activities along its sparkling shoreline. Snorkel and see the colourful marine life, or get your adrenaline pumping with a zip-line ride. For something a little more relaxing, take a serene 700m cable car journey to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres for a spectacular aerial view of the cove.

If turn-of-the-century charm is your style, your Caribbean adventure isn’t complete without visiting Grand Turk Island. At only 9km long, the island’s world-famous pristine beaches and coral reefs are flanked by Bermudan-British colonial-era architecture and colourful local dwellings.

Turn it up a notch with a bit of spice in Puerto Rico. Don your dancing shoes and salsa the night away after spending the days lost in tropical forests or soaking up the sun on unbelievable white sandy beaches.

Get yourself a treat (or two) when you visit Saint Thomas on the Virgin Islands, which is known for its duty-free shopping. This slice of paradise boasts postcard-worthy scenes; imagine palm trees swaying in the breeze, mountain backdrops and crystalline waters.

European extravagance

Relax and cruise your way through the best of Europe; and yes, these tours include the UK.

See European staples such as Barcelona and Seville in Spain and sample the tastiest pizza and pasta direct from the source in Italy.

The ancient walled city of Kotor in Montenegro is an unmissable gem and should be on everyone’s itinerary. Get lost in narrow laneways with local artisans and surprises around every corner. Climb the towering mountainous Ladder of Kotor for spectacular views of the port and city below, and marvel at the scenic wonders of Montenegro.

The Greek islands are perfect for a summer getaway, from the old-world charm of Corfu to the sunsets on Santorini.

Finish your journey in London and join the locals in revelling in an English summer by basking in Hyde Park or strolling around the Thames. Excursions can take you further afield, so you won’t miss out on bucket list items like Stonehenge and Big Ben.

Home away from home

You can visit these picture-perfect destinations and more aboard the newest addition to the Princess Cruise fleet. For the latest in on board technology, luxury and environmentally conscious travel, then consider a journey on the Sun Princess, first setting sail in February 2024.

The 10-day Inaugural Grand Mediterranean excursion will take you through some of the region’s most Instagrammable places. If sailing between paradise and heaven on earth takes your fancy, check out their Caribbean sailing options, or discover the best Europe has to offer on Sun Princess’ extensive European excursions.
