Last-minute school holiday deals

It’s the final weekend of the holidays and before you know it, your little cherubs will be back in their uniforms, filling their heads with knowledge at school and the house will be quiet.

If you’re wracking your brain for ways to keep them entertained for a few more days, here are four activities you can do with the kids to let off steam while saving a few dollars in the process thanks to being an RAA member.

The kids will go back to school bragging about the best holidays ever.

1. See creatures great and small

Escape the zoo at home for the Gorge Wildlife Park (pictured above). Pack a picnic and spend the day watching trepidation turn to excitement on your little ones’ faces when friendly wallabies gently nibble treats out of their outstretched hands. The whole family will learn about Australia’s unique wildlife, from koalas to slinky reptiles, as well as exotic creatures from far away. Get a 10 per cent discount on adult, children and family general admission tickets with your RAA membership.

2. Indoor go-karting, gaming and golf

There are loads of activities at P1 Entertainment Complex to keep thrill seekers, gamers and putters entertained. Your speed demons aged seven and up can hit the go-kart track. With adult supervision, kids old enough to swing a club can aim for an elusive hole-in-one on high-tech golf simulators. Gamers can aim to beat high scores on more than 50 arcade games, from timeless classics to the latest releases. RAA members, get behind the wheel, swing a club or unwind in the restaurant with 20 per cent off all activities.

3. See a movie

Exchange the small screen for the big screen and see the latest family flicks this weekend. Capri Theatre, Event Cinemas, HOYTS, The Mercury, Reading Cinema Elizabeth and Wallis Cinemas are all offering discounts for RAA members, so you’ll be able to find a theatre near you (make sure you check terms and conditions before purchasing). Introduce the next generation to the madness of Looney Tunes with The Day the Earth Blew Up, older kids may get ideas from high school thriller heist Bad Genius or gather the building blocks for a great day in A Minecraft Movie.

4. Go kayaking

If the weather is calm, take the family to the Port River for a bit of nature. A paddle with Adventure Kayaking (pictured above) is suitable for kids eight and older when accompanied by an adult in a tandem kayak. You may find yourself doing most of the paddling during this three-hour tour as your little ones will be too busy pointing out the Port River dolphins, sea birds and pretending to be pirates among the shipwrecks. RAA members, book online and save five per cent on the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard tour.
