5 spectacular spots to take your caravan

South Australia’s home to some of the country’s most beautiful regions. If you take a caravan or motorhome, you can see the sights without having to worry about booking accommodation along the way.   Whether you’re hitching your caravan or campervan or hitting the road in your motorhome, here are some of our favourite places in South Australia to spend the night.  

1. Deep Creek Conservation Park, Fleurieu Peninsula

About 100km south of Adelaide, Deep Creek Conservation Park is one of the largest portions of remaining natural vegetation on the Fleurieu Peninsula. There are 5 campgrounds dotted throughout the park, with 4 accessible by 2WD vehicles. Stringybark, Trig and Cobbler Hill campgrounds can accommodate caravans, however amenities are limited.   Don’t let that deter you though. There are 15 walking trails that provide spectacular views of Kangaroo Island and the rugged Deep Creek Valley. Bird watchers will be in paradise with over 100 species calling the park home. See western grey kangaroos and short-beaked echidnas – if you’re lucky, you can even spot whales frolicking in the ocean from May until October.    

2. Yorke Peninsula

The natural beauty of the Yorke Peninsula makes it difficult to choose just one location. Whether you want to park the caravan on the coast and enjoy the beach or explore Innes National Park, the Yorke Peninsula has you covered.   At Innes National Park, you’ll find some of South Australia’s best coastal views, lighthouses, the Ethel shipwreck and the abandoned township of Inneston. If you’re looking for a beach, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Go surfing at Berry Bay, try your hand at crabbing at Ardrossan or take a dip at Flaherty Beach.
