WATCH: How to squeegee streak-free
Whether you’re squeegeeing your windscreen at home or giving your windows a quick once-over at the servo, spotting a streak or two after your hard work can be annoying.
That’s why we’ve asked RAA car guru and squeegeeing extraordinaire, Simon Halford, for help to master the art of squeegeeing streak-free. Check out his technique in our video below.
What’s the number one mistake people make when squeegeeing their windscreens?
Making vertical sweeps of the windscreen instead of horizontal, and not wiping the entire windscreen in one long sweeping motion.
What’s the secret to squeegeeing streak-free?
Always start at the top of the windscreen and work your way down. Use a long-handled squeegee so you can cover the entire length of the windscreen in one long sweep.
What you’ll need
1. Bucket of clean water (windscreen detergent isn’t essential).
2. Squeegee with a long handle.
Three steps to squeegeeing streak-free
1. Wet the windscreen using the squeegee’s sponge-side in a downwards motion. Scrub stubborn areas a little harder.
2. Start from the furthest end of the windscreen.
3. Make your way down the windscreen, overlapping each swipe of the blade by about 5cm as you move from top to bottom.
Note: If you’ve stopped at the servo for a quick squeegee, leave your wipers down. For a more thorough clean, lift them up.
